With patient, complacent eyes
and a smirk not quite a sneer,
I would sit through most of the Wednesday show
as results of the voting drew near.
Ryan Seacrest's working the crowd,
stretching out to each new next break.
Simon, Randy, Paula and Kara were sure
what direction the voting would take.

With patient, complacent eyes,
I had done my work so well.
If I don't give in to my bragging rights,
there's no way anybody could tell.
With computers keeping the score
for the phone company on-line,
still despite the heavy security used,
it would just take a little more time.

        that might seem to have been misplaced.
        When everyone thought that they knew who'd lose,
