( Automated technology song lyrics )
EVERYTHING IS AUTOMAGIC
Copyright 2005 - MickTerry.com

Tell me, ain't technology splendid?
Tell me, ain't technology grand?
Maybe this whole thing has started spiraling
'til it has gotten way far out of our hands.
I'm not sure just where it got started,
but it's taking over real fast:
a conspiracy to have us atrophy
& have our choices be a thing of the past.

We've had automatic transmissions
& garage door openers, too.
We've got locks & lights & these alarms at night
that even work when we're not wanting them to.
Now it's automatic ignition
while we're still two blocks from our car.
& the heat's up full or else it's super-cooled
before we're even close to op'ning the door.

    EVERYTHING IS AUTOMAGIC.
You can't just do it yourself.
A machine will do it for you
& your muscles are going to hell.
    EVERYTHING IS AUTOMAGIC.
It's all being done for you.
You're not allowed to do it on your own
    even if you wanted to.

We've got automatic deposit,
automated bill-paying, too.
Auto- grammar check & auto-spelling check,
although it doesn't know a "too" from a "two".
Auto- towel & water dispensers,
auto- flush while taking a crap.
Our robotic vacc is not inclined to attack,
but we suspect it ate our family cat.

    CHORUS

It's the latest. It's the greatest.
Better buy one now before they're all gone.
It's the latest. It's the greatest.
Better pay no mind to that voice inside
saying you don't really need one.

Soon our mem'ries will have departed
of those days when we had control,
when we had to think. Now all that's on the blink
& we are buying just whatever we're told.
& that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Ask our old friend Julius Verne.
At some point in time, will something stop this climb
so we can see just what it is we have learned?

    CHORUS

During a power outage at The Los Angeles Times,
the only things that worked were the automatic paper towel dispensers
& auto-flushing toilets  (which usually did not work properly).
