Ordinarily, I don't give much time
to political discourse,
but something came across my desk
that at first I took as farce.
E-mailed by a friend who often
sends a joke or two to share,
but this differed much from the other stuff
in its tendency to scare.

I really thought it was in jest:
this could never be for real.
The whole idea was too absurd;
it had comedy appeal.
But I wondered if so many stiffs
could happen on their own,
as I read the stats there portrayed as facts
that were not so widely known.

    Of FATAL FRIENDS & FATTENING FOE,
    should I believe what I am hearing
    of suicides and accidents,
    of people disappearing?
    Of FATAL FRIENDS & FATTENING FOE,
    it's scary just to think
    that all these deaths have a common strand,
    one very deadly link.

Some victims were of high esteem,
while some others were not such.
And some were called to testify;
maybe someone knew too much.
I don't usually see conspiracies
in everything that moves,
but a second look for what's overlooked
may provide something to prove.

        A decapitated witness
        was said to have naturally died.
        A gunshot wound to the back of the head
        was ruled a suicide.
        Eleven other people's fates
        were likewise ruled the same.
        And two kids were found all over the ground
        after "sleeping" beneath a train.

    CHORUS

A dozen bodyguards are dead
of causes unexplained.
Ten people murdered, three crashed in cars
and five more crashed in planes.
If coincidence or just bad luck,
close to fifty dead or killed,
but it seems a great mortality rate
just to be a Friend of Bill.

        If the country's chase of a sexual case
        can nearly crush an administration,
        maybe we should bring all of this whole thing
        to further investigation.
        But then, who is free (besides you & me)
        of a prejudicial view ?
        Who knows what we'd find
        if we searched inside
        the misdeeds of George W. ?

Hillary Clinton lost Democratic Party Presidential nomination.

Written in 1998 after reading an article about deaths
involving people somehow involved with Bill Clinton,
this song lyric was put on this site with an updated coda
regarding George W. Bush on 11-18-03,
unaware of the death of Michael Kamen in England the same day.

The title was a parody of a song (Faithful Friends & Flattering Foe)
by a group that  Mick Terry  really liked many years ago,
The New York Rock & Roll Ensemble, fusing rock & classical music.
The founder, keyboardist & lead oboist ( of 2 )* was Michael Kamen,
who went on to renown as a film composer (X-Men, Robin Hood,
Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Mr. Holland's Opus, Frequency).
Also an orchestral arranger & conductor of numerous projects
fusing the rock & classical worlds (Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Metallica),
numerous awards, including Grammies, were bestowed upon him.

Kamen & Richard Dreyfus founded The Mr. Holland's Opus
Foundation to rebuild musical instruments & to give new & used
instruments to schools & children to help get kids playing music again.
The headquarters of the foundation is right down the street from
Mick Terry's  home near Los Angeles.   Small world.
Michael Kamen died 11-18-03 in England from a heart attack
at the age of 55, after battling multiple schlerosis for several years.
