( Proud Papa Syndrome song lyrics )
( I WANT TO SEE YOU )   SHINE
Copyright 2003 - MickTerry.com

The nurse and your mom were beaming
when I heard you were on your way.
I had to hold on to the doctor's desk
'cause the whole room had started to sway.
Yes, you had been in our planning,
but not for another year.
You could say we got caught with our knickers down
& the next thing, you were right here.

Your mom didn't do much screaming
like the ones that are in those shows.
I had to hold on to her clenching hand
as contractions were getting more close.
We'd asked for LeBoyer's birthing,
but that was a bit too new.
There is no way that I would have missed your birth,
at the moment you became you.

I wanted you to SHINE-. I wanted you to grow.
I wanted you to live your life
the fullest, deepest way you know--.
I wanted you to SHINE-. I wanted you to soar.
I want to give you all I can- and so- much more.

I loved coaching you in soccer
and I loved coaching you in life.
Like gravity, I had to be so firm
as you figured out wrong from right.
In Capture the Flag and sailing,
Freeze Tag and the rocks we climbed,
you were building the strengths of your character,
'though it seemed like fun at the time.

I want to see you SHINE-. I want to see you grow.
I want to see you live your life
the fullest, deepest way you know--.
I want to see you SHINE-. I want to see you soar.
I want to give you all I can- and so- much more.

Some people would say, "wait 'til such and such an age,
and you'll really love your kid then".
But for me, it's been true, loving everything you do,
I'm not about to wait until when.

And now, I just heard your message:
they accepted you to that school.
From my point of view, if they'd turn you down,
they'd have proven they were the fools.
Please, do what you love that you're good at
and say what you've got to voice.
If you take a good look where you've been so far,
you might see it's always your choice.

& now I've seen you SHINE-. & now I've seen you grow.
& now I've seen you live your life
the fullest, deepest way you know--.
& now I've seen you SHINE-. & now I've seen you soar.
& now you've grown to be a man- & so- much more.
